Overview of the Saskatchewan Experience streams

Small house near Regina, Saskatchewan
The Saskatchewan Experience (SE) streams require that the candidate hold a job offer from a Saskatchewan employer and have work experience in the province to be eligible.

When receiving a nomination under the one of the SE streams, candidates can then apply for Permanent Residence to the federal government of Canada.
The SE streams are not aligned with Express Entry, which means that candidates cannot take advantage of the 6-month average processing times of Express Entry. Processing times of Provincial Nominee Programs (not aligned with Express Entry) are usually longer and take at least 1 year.

The Saskatchewan Experience category consists of 5 streams:
  • Existing Work Permit (Skilled Worker and Semi-skilled Agricultural Worker sub-streams),
  • Health Professionals (Physicians, Nurses, and Other Health Professions sub-streams),
  • Hospitality Workers,
  • Long-Haul Truck Driver, and
  • Students.

The SE streams require a valid job offer and previous work experience in the province as their main eligibility requirements, and candidates do not need to provide proof of funds. There are other requirements that must be fulfilled regarding the candidate and the job offer.

Eligibility Requirements

There are 2 main categories of eligibility requirements that we will summarize below (there is no proof of settlement funds requirement for this stream). You can apply to any stream if you satisfy to all the requirements below. However, there are a few points to keep in mind:
  • Graduates working on a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) must apply to the Students stream (or the Employment Offer stream).
  • Food and Beverage Servers/Persons must apply under the Hospitality Sector stream.
  • Health professionals must apply to one of the three Health Professional sub-streams.

1. General job offer requirements applicable to all Saskatchewan Experience streams:
To be eligible to one of the stream, you need to have an offer of permanent, full-time employment in Saskatchewan. You will need a valid SINP Job Approval Letter (your employer needs to apply for one) to show proof of this.

The job offer must offer wages and working conditions that match Canadian standards in that occupation. It must also:
  • Be addressed to you,
  • State the job title, duties and responsibilities, wage, benefits, and company contact information,
  • List the location (i.e. town/city) of your position in Saskatchewan,
  • Be issued on the company’s letterhead, and
  • Be signed by the employer.

You must also have at least 6 months of work experience in Saskatchewan to be eligible. More details on each stream in the table below.

2. Specific requirements to each stream:
You can find your intended occupation's National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Type/Level here.
You can find the list of approved language tests here. Note that the TCF Canada French language test is not accepted by the SINP for these streams.
You can learn more about Educational Credential Assessments here.

Stream Opening History

The Saskatchewan Experience streams are usually always open. You can check out our awesome Live PNP Monitor to see if the streams are currently open and their latest news, as well as for all the other PNP streams.

Do I have to stay in the Province?

This is a tricky question and there are multiple situations that can happen. You can learn more about this subject on our dedicated article: Can I move to another province?

Does the Stream have In-Demand Jobs?

Some streams target specific NOC codes, meaning that if you have experience in those in-demand jobs, you either (i) have more chances to be invited or (ii) that you can be eligible to the stream.

In the case of the Saskatchewan Experience streams, there is no in-demand occupation list. You can find out about the other provinces' in-demand jobs in our in-demand NOC codes article.
