There are lots of places in Montréal where to ice-skate for free. Parc La Fontaine in the Plateau has a skating pond when weather permits, as does Parc Maisonneuve. Use the official list to find all the skating rinks in Montreal and their current condition.

Visit the Redpath Museum

​​The Redpath Museum, founded in 1882, features Egyptian antiquities, fossils and skeletons of extinct species (even dinosaurs), rocks and minerals. The admission is by donation, so it is basically free.

Visit the Jean Talon Market

Since 1934, residents of the Little Italy neighbourhood and from all around Montréal have been shopping in the Jean Talon market for fresh Quebec products and specialty items. The market is open every day and beware of its diversity of small shopkeepers and restaurateurs, as they are sure to appetize you during your visit.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts permanent collection is free the last Sunday of each month. Temporary major exhibitions are by admission only.
The Centre of Design at the Université du Québec à Montréal is free from Wednesdays to Sundays, 12 to 6 PM.
The Canadian Center for Architecture is free on Thursday nights from 5:30 to 9 PM.
​The Museum of Contemporary Art is half price on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 9 PM.

Visit Montreal City Hall with a guide

Free 30-minute guided tours of Montreal's grandiose City Hall, built between 1872 and 1878, are offered from June 27th to August 26th, Monday to Friday, in French and in English. 
You can still visit it for free without a guide for the rest of the year.

Walk, bike, or drive up Mont-Royal

You'll have a phenomenal panoramic view of Montreal after walking to the summit of Mont Royal (which takes approximately 45 min). Alternately you can bike or drive to the summit. Other attractions on Mont-Royal include the Smith House, the Tam Tams on Sunday mornings from May to October, and the Beaver Lake.

Free Tango intro classes are offered during summer in Montreal parks thanks to Tango Libre. You can take your free introduction class in their studio in winter.

At 10 AM on Sunday mornings in a Montréal park, meditate with Yoga on the Park's community. It is technically free but you are suggested to donate $5, which goes to charities.
